NIKI and airberlin: Joint summer schedule is cleared for take-off

Passengers can now fly with NIKI from Dusseldorf to Mallorca and the best holiday destinations in Europe

"Welcome aboard your NIKI flight from Dusseldorf to Palma de Mallorca", will be heard for the very first time next Sunday, 26th March 2017, by guests aboard Flight HG7622.

The transfer of airberlin's tourist routes to its Austrian subsidiary, NIKI, will come into effect at the start of the summer schedule on 26 March 2017. Alongside flights to the Balearic Islands, this includes flights to a wide range of popular holiday destinations around the Mediterranean and in the Atlantic such as Ibiza, Crete, Tenerife and Gran Canaria.

“No other airline has contributed more to the development and growth of tourism in Mallorca than airberlin. It is therefore a matter of great importance to us that we are handing over the baton to our partner airline NIKI who will operate flights to holiday destinations on our behalf. For airberlin, this marks an important milestone on its way to becoming a network carrier with a focussed, global route network and a unique portfolio of premium services”, said Götz Ahmelmann, Chief Commercial Officer at airberlin.

Julio Rodriguez, Chief Commercial Officer NIKI: "Since being founded, NIKI has stood for optimum service and excellent customer focus. With the take-over of the traditional airberlin routes to Mallorca and many other idyllic destinations around the Mediterranean and the Atlantic, the only difference for our passengers from North Rhine-Westphalia will be our appearance, and they will also receive that certain something extra: Austrian charm, on-board service with a selection of excellent food and drink and our special NIKI flair that gets them in the holiday mood while still in the air. NIKI is set to become the number one holiday airline in German-speaking countries and passengers' first choice for relaxing holiday travel."

“airberlin continues to focus strongly on long-haul and business travel flights in Dusseldorf. The airline’s warm weather destinations will also be retained for passengers in North Rhine-Westphalia. This is because we have a strong new partner in the tourist travel sector on our side with NIKI,” stresses Thomas Schnalke, spokesman for Dusseldorf Airport’s management. “NIKI will thus become the third largest airline in Dusseldorf after the Lufthansa Group (LH/EW/4U) and airberlin, both in terms of passenger numbers and with regard to aircraft movements.”

airberlin is the largest airline at Dusseldorf Airport. airberlin currently accounts for around 30 per cent of all available seats. Dusseldorf is used as a hub by airberlin with many connecting flights and a wide range of long-haul routes on offer. Alongside a range of routes within Germany and to Austria and Switzerland, airberlin occupies a strong position within European air traffic. Flights to major European cities such as Barcelona, Milan and Stockholm are as just as important to us as flights to holiday destinations such as Olbia, Catania and Nice. We enjoy close cooperation with Alitalia, Air Serbia and oneworld partner airlines Iberia, British Airways and Finnair. For example, together with Alitalia, airberlin offers more than 120 weekly departures from Dusseldorf to Italy. Airberlin is making more long-haul flights available from Dusseldorf than any other airline. The focus here is on the USA and the Caribbean with further expansion planned in the future. Starting from 6th May 2017 we will be providing 5 flights per week to Orlando. During summer 2017, airberlin will fly to a total of 38 destinations from Dusseldorf.

Starting summer 2017, airberlin’s Austrian partner airline NIKI will be providing excellent connections from Dusseldorf to sun destinations in the Mediterranean and Atlantic. From summer 2017 NIKI will provide services a total of 16 sun destinations in Spain, Portugal, and the Canary and Greek Islands. Mallorca, for example, will be served by seven non-stop daily flights. Flights to southern Tenerife and Gran Canaria will take off from Dusseldorf four times per week. Passengers wanting to head to Crete can choose from a total of 5 non-stop flights each week. Rhodes will see two weekly flights on Tuesdays and Fridays and passengers will be able to fly with NIKI to Kos every Wednesday and Friday.

All airberlin and NIKI flights can be booked at both www.airberlin.com and www.flyniki.com.

Nothing changes for topbonus members: miles can continue to be collected and redeemed on flights operated by NIKI and airberlin, and status benefits remain unaffected.

To mark the transfer of the tourist routes to NIKI at the start of the summer schedule, NIKI and airberlin are offering their passengers tickets to select sun destinations from 49 euros one-way, up to and including 28th March 2017. All flights can be booked online on the airberlin and NIKI websites, by calling + 49 (0)180 6- 334 334 (€0.20 per call from a German landline / max. €0.60 per call from a German mobile network) and via travel agents.
